Windows Xp Share persmission

Hi,

Can anyone explain to me how to set a share folder on a XP pro computer
(call server for this purpose) that can only be access by one user, I
explain:

By default the share folder is accessible to everyone, but I wish to remove
the everyone and use only the user name. I think I did it properly, setting
the permission correctly.

On a remote computer, I log using that user name and password, I can see the
share folder on the server computer, but when I try to access it, I end up
with an error message that sound like Permission/Access Denied.

At this point, it's worse than that, I can not access any of the share I
setup, I always end up with the same message, on any clients computers. I
try from different clients, and different servers, it's always the same, but
I still can access some other computers on the network, I do not know why
some are working and other do not.

In the mean time, I can access a folder set on the same server (XP pro)
using a Linux client computer, so it's only the XP machine that can not see
each other.

Any help will be welcome.

There are 2 levels of permissions, one is the "share" permissions which
only control access from the network. The other is the "file"
permissions, aka NTFS permissions, which control all access - network
and local. Most of us use the file permissions because they're
all-inclusive. If you want different levels of permissions for local
users, you can use share permissions to control network access and file
permissions to control local access. The file permissions must be the
same as the share permissions for network access (file permissions trump
share permissions - if you give a user "Full Control" share permissions,
but "Read-Only" file permissions, they will have read-only access).

To share a folder in XP pro, turn OFF simple file sharing (believe me,
it's much simpler to do it the other way). You'll need a user account on
the server that exactly matches (username and password) the user who you
want to grant access to the share. The password is REQUIRED - by
default, file share access is denied to users with no password. When you
create the share (right click the folder and select "Properties"), set
the share permissions to "Everyone - Full Control". Then click the
"Security" tab, add the user(s) with the permissions you want them to have.

When those users log into another machine (using the username and
password that matches the account you gave permissions to on the
server), they'll have access to the share.
